I feel like I take a completely different approach to my hair than I do my makeup: the less switch-up and more routine the better. Personally I tend to wash my hair twice a week – or every three to four days (depending on it’s condition). I used to be one of those girls who felt like they needed to wash it every single day. TBH I sometimes even washed it twice daily. Once I started doing more research into haircare I found that washing it this often actually makes your hair produce more oil; therefore making it dirtier.
About two years ago I started transitioning into less of a wash cycle and it’s made a huge difference! It does take a while for your hair to get use to the change but once you make it through the first few weeks you’re golden. When it comes to routine I try to keep things fairly simple and aim for products that are lightweight so that they don’t gunk up my hair, yet can hold a style.
I have been using the John Frieda Sheer Blonde line for at least 10 years now. I find the line to be so lovely to blonde hair and it gives the perfect amount of hydration and cleanliness. I tend to mix a decent amount of the Highlight Activating shampoo with some purple shampoo (I’m currently using the Jhimark brand – SUPER inexpensive) to rid any brassiness. I find purple shampoos to be fairly drying, so the combination of the two products gives the perfect amount of suds to make my hair feel fresh. I usually massage it into my scalp and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing. Side-note: the “Go Blonder” line doesn’t necessarily make your hair lighter – so if you’re looking for specifically then i’d go a different route. However, it does make your hair nice and soft! Pre-drying I then apply a protectant to the ends. Currently I’m using the Bumble & Bumble Repair cream but my long-standing favorite is the MoroccanOil.
After blow-drying my hair I part it down the middle and spray dry shampoo at the roots. Yup, shampooing fresh hair. Seems strange but honestly this is what gives my hair the most amount of volume throughout the day! I let it sit for a few minutes and then I massage it in so that all of the product blends. I have tried SO many dry shampoos but I find Not Your Mothers to be my favorite. The best part is that it’s fairly inexpensive so I don’t break the bank when I re-purchase.
Once the dry shampoo sets in I tease my hair a little bit at the crown. This is what adds an extra boost of oomph and keeps it from falling throughout the day. How Jersey am I? I then part my hair into two sections, taking the top portion and clipping it off. One of my favorite secrets to a long-holding curl is to then spray my hair with hairspray, brushing through before it dries fully. This gives you a long hold without making your hair hard or sticky. If you follow me on Snapchat you know that I’ve recently fallen in LOVE with the new Pantene Airspray. It is alcohol free so it gives the perfect amount of hold and bounce without the crunch. I love how it doesn’t dry out my hair. Not joking, I can spray my curls in the morning and they last even throughout the most humid days. This is especially important if you’re only washing your hair every few days, as we all know second and third day curls are the best! Here are some other shots of my hair lately while using this product: 1, 2, 3, and 4. You can see how soft my curls look even though they’re doused in hairspray.
Once I finish curling my hair I set it again with a mist of the Airspray. I then run my fingers through my hair to break up the curls and follow by spraying two to three spritzes of the Oribe Apres Beach texturizing spray per side. This is what gives that super beachy and undone look. A little bit goes a long way so make sure you don’t overdue it! It can leave your hair in a knotty mess if so.
Lastly, I rub my fingers in some of the Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Finishing paste to get rid of any baby hairs and to finish of my front ends. This stuff is so great as it is not sticky at all and it has that classic Garnier smell – you know which one i’m talking about!
