The Blush Tag

Do you ever line up all of your blushes and realize that they look exactly the same? Oops. In my defense, they all have different benefits + since I was tagged by Cindy I can now lay them out for you! Blush is such a fun piece of my makeup routine. I feel like it just warms everything up and gives my face the perfect flush of color. Read on to find more about my blush habits…

1. What blush color suits you the most?

Ha, well, I guess we can see a theme here. I tend to go for dusty rose colors that are more pink-hued than mauve. I find that this shade works best for my skin tone and screams femininity to me. There’s nothing prettier on a woman than a healthy glow! I also find that this shade works great year round – whether I’m pale (aka now) or sporting a bit of a tan.

2. Pressed, cream or loose blush?

Definitely pressed! Although I love the look of cream blushes I haven’t been able to get on with them. I like to set my makeup with powders so the cream just gets mixed up in the consistency. I’ve also used loose blush in the past but it can get a bit messy – and harder to control the level of blush you’re applying. No one likes clown cheeks…

3. Favorite shimmery blush?

NARS ‘Orgasm’ is a cult classic and for good reason! Although this isn’t hugely glittery, it does contain golden flecks that give skin a highlighted look. I tend to pull this out the most during the warmer months and then layer a golden highlight on top. Bring on ALL of the highlight! If you can’t tell, I had a casualty when I dropped this bad boy on my bathroom floor. Stubbornly I haven’t bought a new one and am nervous to try out any ‘re-construction’ work. Instead I just try to be very cautious when sweeping it up and make sure not to travel with it.

4. Favorite matteblush?

I feel like NYX blushers are so underrated. I picked up ‘Pinched’ from ULTA over the holidays and have since fallen in love with it. I’m not sure if this is technically considered matte, but it’s the closest one in my collection to be. The color is super pigmented and is so long lasting. Plus I think it runs for $5? Yes, yes, yes.

5. Favorite cream blush?
As stated before I’m not a huge cream blush fan, but I do own one: H&M’s ‘Dusty Rose’. The formula is extremely buildable and seems to melt into the skin.

6. Favorite drugstore blush?

NYX for sure! They have about 24 shades and all are so beautiful. I need to snag a few colors to add to my arsenal – currently I’m eyeing up ‘Silky Rose and ‘Desert Rose.

7. Favorite high end blush?

Charlotte Tilbury was definitely an investment but one that I’m glad I made. I have ‘Ecstacy’ from their Check to Chic Blush line and have been using it daily. I love the idea of incorporating two colors into one pot: sweeping around the outside shade to cover the cheek, then popping the inner shade on the apples of your cheek. The formula is extremely beautiful and pigmented – so a little goes a long way! I also love how this shade has a more muted coral tone, compared to the pinky hues of my other blushes.

8. Favorite bright blush?

I feel like I don’t necessarily have a great option for this one as most of my shades are fairly wearable. However, I’ve made it my mission to invest in more blush shades this year so stay tuned (I’m looking at you NARS ‘Mata Hari’)!

9. Biggest blush disappointment/regret?

This is such a tough one! I would say the cream blush from H&M is my least favorite, and least used. It could be because of my lack of love for cream blushes but I feel like this one just sticks to your existing makeup (instead of mixing seamlessly). Thankfully this had a small cost to it so my pocketbook isn’t all that sad!

10. Best blush packaging?

NARS, for sure. There’s something so beautiful about the matte black packaging and the white letters. Although you can’t see what color is inside, it just is a classic.

11. What’s on your blush wish list?

So many! I heard good things about the Hourglass blushes; the Urban Decay + Gwen Stefani collaboration; MAC’s Flamingo Park collection; and a few from NARS (the sangria colored ‘Seduction’, berry colored ‘Sin’, and the softer ‘Sex Appeal’). Gotta love blush names…

12. Number 1 Holy Grail Blush?

I feel like I go for ‘Orgasm’ the most. It’s the easiest color to sweep on and blend well with any makeup look.

Now I’m throwing back the tag to Faith and inviting Brooke and Jordan to share their favorites!
