We all know the holidays can be hectic. Between aggressive shopping malls, time with the family, and traveling near and far, we all need a break. Read on to find three great ideas for day or night off – while keepin’ to the festive mood! Best off, I think these three things can also be great to enjoy with other people.
1. Deck the Halls and Indulge
Tis the season to be overly tacky in your home and indulge in all of the chocolate. One of my favorite days of the season is the one where we break out the tubs of Christmas decorations and put them up. We usually whip up some delicious hot chocolate, put on festive music, and snack on some yummy treats. It’s always such a warming experience and makes you appreciate the holiday so much more – especially when you add a splash of Baileys in your cup!
For decorating snacks, Trader Joes is my favorite spot to pick up holiday treats. They always have a rotation of delicious chocolates – and I’m a sucker for anything peppermint. Their mint creams and chocolate covered pretzels are way too delicious to be accessible. Calories don’t count on the holidays, right? Bring on the whipped cream.
2. Have a Mini Spa Day
As the temperatures drop my desire for all things warm rise. My second favorite way to relax during the holidays is to pour a nice bath (I may or may not have had one on both days this weekend). I’ll usually pop on a fresh face mask and drop a bath bomb in the tub – both from Lush. The Rosy Cheeks mask is my all-time favorite, but I’m currently loving the Oatifix one. It’s super hydrating and smells exactly like banana bread. I dare you not to want to eat it.
After the bath I always slather on some lovely smelling hand cream to ensure my hands don’t get battered from the cooler air. My current favorite cream is Hand Food from Soap and Glory. I’m very sensitive about hand cream – as I don’t like the feeling of greasy hands – and the creamy formula is one of my favorites. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s with their original Pink fragrance, so my hands are left smelling delicious.
3. Share Some Cheer + Watch a Holiday Flick
Although I am horrible at putting together Christmas cards I do love receiving them. There’s something just so special about seeing a letter in your mailbox and knowing it was sent from a loved one. I usually like to stock up on my Christmas letters and read them all at once – usually in some flannel PJs and fuzzy socks. Add in a classic Christmas movie and it’s the perfect night in! My favorites are Home Alone, Christmas Vacation, Elf, and The Holiday. However, a great chick flick is also always a great choice. Does anyone else remember John Tucker Must Die? GOLDEN.
If you’re like me and are super forgetful when it comes to sending cards then you can use the night to call loved ones or even Skype them. Don your best red lip and make it a friend date!
