This month’s box somehow came at the perfect timing, with the perfect products. With the cooler air coming in and heating units turned on I’ve found my skin and hair a little lackluster. I’m also on the constant hunt of picking up mini products to cart on my carry on for LA next week. This months box theme was Feeling Fancy and was all about indulging yourself to feel your best as you had into the holidays.
RUSK Hair Care Elixer Mist I had high hopes for this one: a hair serum mist that gives instant shine to your tresses. However when they say it’s a mist, they mean it. I literally can’t see it coming out of the nozzle and ended up spraying a ton on my hair the first time. Cue super greaseball moment. I gave it a whirl the next day but still wasn’t a huge fan. I found it to be a bit too shiny, instead of having a healthy glow. Bonus points that it had a good smell! Otherwise I think I’m more comfortable sticking with my Moroccan Oil serum – since I have a bit more control over the distribution.
Temple Spa La La Lagoon Aromatic Bath & Shower Gel This is like a spa day in a bottle, with notes of mint, peppermint, and basil. I’m usually not a stickler when it comes to body washes. If it keeps me clean and doesn’t contain glitter (anyone remember Art Stuff from Bath and Body Works?) i’m good with it. This formula smells so dang good though! I’ve packed it away for my LA suitcase and am fighting the urge to use it daily. A little dab lathers up quite well and gives you super smooth skin. I also love how the scent makes me feel super relaxed and stays with me long after I rinse off. It also seems that the full-sized bottle comes with a pump, which you don’t see much with shower gels. Innovative!
Dr. Lipp Miracle Balm This is promised to be in an all-in-one product. Per the label, “Bonus: you can also use it to smooth sunburn, tame brows, and nourish thirsty skin anywhere on your body.” Really the biggest appeal for me is using it as an eye gloss, even though I haven’t had a chance to test out yet. Lately I’ve been using it as a deep-conditioning lip balm, but the product would be great for travelling. The only surprising thing I found was that it was much thicker than I had anticipated. Sometimes I find myself squeezing nonstop to get the smallest amount of product out.
Amika Nourishing Mask Ive seen this bright packaging pop up from time to time so I was super excited to see it in my box. I was also just thinking about how badly I needed a hair mask, then BAM! Simple enough: you apply the mask to your hair and let it set for a few minutes. After, you wash out. I found the smell to be great and loved how thick the mask was – some can be runny and end up all in your eyes. I did notice that my hair felt much softer and shinier after using so win/win! I would definitely like to try this one out again.
LOC One & Done Eyeshadow Stick This stuff is great! Which makes sense since the shades were handpicked by YouTube beauty star Tati Westbrook. I’ve been using the shade “Day Trip” – a warm copper – smudged all over my lid on lazy days. I love how you can also make the shades lighter or heavier handed by just adding some layers. This allows the color to carry over from daytime to a night out. The cream formula of the shadow stick also sets a great foundation. I’ve been layering a gold shimmer color from my LORAC palette on top when I want something a little more.
Most loved product: Weirdly enough I think the shower gel takes the cake for me. I’ve forgotten how nice it is to have a really great scent to later up with. Plus, it’s an instant aromatherapy session before I hit the sheets.
Most disappointing product: The RUSK hair mist just didn’t hold up for my hair. What was supposed to be a time-saver, ended up with me loading tons of dry shampoo in my hair to cover the heavy serum.
