Top Five Favorites: Week of 2.8.15.

Happy Tuesday! After having a gorgeous weather day on Sunday, it looks like there’s some gloomy days in the forecast. Thankfully my lovely friend Lydia had her birthday yesterday and we got to nom on these yummy donuts from DD – which brightens up any day.

My parents came up to visit last weekend so we did a lot of exploring in the city. Saturday kicked off with a tour of the Washington Monument then a visit to the American History Museum. I hadn’t inside of the monument since it reopened, so it was really cool to see the views of the entire city. I even got to snag a few photos through the windows:

The American History Museum was surprisingly a little less than what I had anticipated. However, I did get to see the ruby red slippers from the Wizard of Oz + Michelle Obama’s inauguration dress (which was even more beautiful in person). We topped off the evening with a happy hour at Circa with some wine and my favorite mushroom flat bread.

Saturday we got to get a tour of the Capitol and the Library of Congress. These two buildings are my new absolute favorite place to visit in DC. The design is gorgeous and there are beautiful stained glass windows and artwork all throughout the buildings. I was super bummed since I left my camera at my apartment, so I’m planning on heading back this weekend to snag some photos. I would highly recommend visiting if you’re in the DC area! We then hit up the Newseum for some exhibits and had dinner at another one of my favorite places Liberty Tavern – complete with scallops + Moscow mules.

They had to head out on Sunday a.m. to beat the weather but it was so nice having them in town! The rest of my day was just spent getting some things done around my apartment and recovering from the night before (since I decided it was a good idea to go out after dinner).

Heading into this week, a lot of my favorites revolve around Valentines Day coming up. Although it’s not my favorite holiday I think it’s a good excuse to remind yourself of all the ways you are loved – whether its from friends, family, yourself, or a significant other.

[PinningGalentines Day. As Leslie Knope knows, spending Valentines Day weekend with your lady friends may be the best thing out there. I personally will be taking part in Galentines Day this year with some of my closest friends! This board contains some great decor and food ideas – as well as some flirty and fun outfits for the day ahead. [Hearing] Spotify’s ‘Indie Pop!’ Station. My music taste has been extremely varied lately, but indie and pop music has always been my go-to. I found this station on Spotify as I was browsing for some new music the other day and it’s been on repeat ever since! The songs are upbeat + poppy without being repeats from your Top 40 station (because, lets be honest, you can only hear the same things for so long). Some of my favorite tracks on repeat have been “I’m Good” by The Mowgli’s, “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon, and “Weekend” by Priory.

[Reading] Song of Style’s ‘11 Ways to Get Over a Breakup‘ SOS has always been one of my favorite blogs but this entry won over my heart. Aimee speaks to how she’s gotten over one of the toughest times in her life – all while continuing to look amazing and better herself in the process.

[Envying] Fashion from the Grammys. The Grammys red carpet is one that I always look forward to. It is usually filled with fashion risks and the development of new trends. This year was no different. My favorites had to have been Taylor Swift, Gwen Stefani, and Katy Perry.

[LovingFun Desktop Wallpaper. I’m always trying to spice up my desktop – since looking at the same screen for nine hours a day can get pretty dull. I found Design Lovefest on Instagram and have always had a constant source for cute backgrounds. Currently the watercolor “Work Like a Boss” is my wallpaper of choice!

I’d love to hear if you have any great finds that you’d add to your list!
