What Sarah Loves - June

What Sarah Loves - June

I'm officially in Summer mode and loving everything that reminds me of warmer days. It's time to ditch the bulk, pull out the sunless tan, and overindulge in your favorite ice cream. June is also a season of minimalism and keeping things effortless - even if they require effort.

I've never been a fan of shorts but am so excited that longer silhouettes are back in style. Updated with a tie around the waist, and beautiful patterns, they're classy enough for a casual office or strolling on the boardwalk. Tip: find one with a vertical stripe to elongate your legs. Now, bring on sand between the toes and long days in the sun...

Chicago Travel Guide

A weekly roundup on a Tuesday, wha?! As I write this on Monday night I already am so grateful for the extra long weekend. If you've been keeping up on Instagram you know that I've spent the last five days in Chicago. It was such a fun trip exploring the city, but it definitely wore me out (P.S. my recap will be coming this week!). In order to make up for lost sleep and time I've spent the past 24 hours in-between watching Disney movies in my bed and cleaning/unpacking. As hard as it is to be productive when you're exhausted, it also feels so good to go into the workweek with a clean slate. The month of June is a heavy travel month for me so I'm looking forward to using every quiet moment I can! Here's to a four day week and getting back into the creative zone.

This Deaux Lux white saddle back is perfect for Summer and on sale for $45! Move quick as there's only a few left.
I appreciate Estee Lalonde's take on a Quarter Life Crisis (and how things aren't as bad as you think)
I'm on the hunt for a dress for an upcoming wedding and love this dark green maxi
14 ways to tell if clothing is well made or cheap - so handy when shopping at discount stores!
Zara has so many goodies lately; including this linen top and this quilted mini bag

Spring Fragrance Picks

I find that Spring is the best time of year for fragrance. The spicy notes of winter make way for fresher ones, and the breezy winds go perfectly with a light scent. Perfume is one of those things that remain fairly signature for each and every person. For me, I like a scent that's delicate and fresh with a bit of a masculine undertone. I want a scent that's slightly there but not overbearing - especially with living in a city where you're in close quarters to a lot of people. No one wants a huge whiff of freesias early in the morning...

Elizabeth + James Nirvana White
If I had to pick my go-to/wear everyday/can't go without perfume it'd be this one.
Notes: delicate peony, chic muguet, tender musk
Style: feminine scent with dark sophistication

Marc Jacobs Daisy
When I want something super feminine and playful, Daisy is the perfect counterpart. I love this one for daytime.
Notes: strawberry, violet leaves, ruby red grapefruit, gardenia, violet petals, jasmine petals, musk, vanilla, white woods
Style: a sparkling floral bouquet, spirited and fresh, wrapped in comfort and warmth

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh
This is like Daisy's bubbly younger sister: more fruity, more fun! I like this when the weather is a bit warmer since it is a bit sweeter than my other choices.
Notes: natural raspberry, grapefruit, pear, violet, wild rose, apple blossom, musks, cedarwood, plum
Style: flirty scent of flowers and the cheerful sweetness of fruits. The light, woody base infuses a subtle but sharp glimmer of musk

Jessica Simpson Fancy
This one takes me back. It's what I wore all through college, and it somehow makes me feel comfortable. It's a bit muskier than my other scents so it's perfect for a night out (bonus is that guys seem to love it).
Notes: pear, apricot, red berries, gardenia, jasmine, almond, caramel, sandalwood, vanilla, amber
Style: oriental fragrance with a hint of vanilla

NARS Schiap Review

I have officially found my new favorite bold lipstick. Actually, it's been one that I've been eyeing (and borrowing from Faith) for years now! Better late then never, right?

NARS' "Schiap" is the perfect blue-toned pink lipstick when you want an extra pop. It is a semi-matte formula so it's such a nice blend of being hydrating without that extra shine. Also, I find that the formula allows the color to fade nicely - no worries of having that awkward ring around your lips.

As someone who's "going out" wardrobe is ENTIRELY black, this is my favorite way to introduce color. I apply it straight from the bullet for a gorgeous flush of color. If I'm wearing it during the day, or want a more subtle coloring, I'll create a stained effect by just putting some lipstick on my finger and pressing it onto my lips. You can also add a small dab of gloss in the center of your lips for added dimension. Basically, no matter how you apply "Schiap" it'll make a statement.

I find that the color does wear a bit differently depending on your skintone: check Emma Stone vs. Alexis Biedel vs. Kim K for reference. Regardless be ready for a spurt of happiness when you apply this lip!

Spring Beauty Switch Out

With the weather slowly (and I mean, very slowly) getting warmer and sunnier, everyone gets in the mood to do some cleaning and changing of the wardrobe. Why not switch up your beauty products as well? Not only are there so many great new lines dropping this time of year but it's also the perfect chance to experiment with that blue eyeliner you've been dying to use, or the new highlighter you want to smother your face with.

Here are some of the tricks I like to use to 'shed' the winter blues when it comes to my makeup:

1. Bring out the dewy/lightweight base: Your skin is ready to show itself, so lets illuminate it! The mid-temperatures that come with Spring are the perfect time to bring out your creamy bases. I love to switch out my foundation to a BB cream or a serum for a lighter look. I also tend to gravitate towards my creamier concealers and put my heavier setting powders to the wayside.
2. Add a pop of color to your face: Although winter seems to give flushed cheeks naturally, this time of year welcomes the faux effect with open arms! Add a swipe of pinky blush to your cheeks to give a beautiful glow. I love to use a formula that has a bit of shimmer to it for an extra boost. I also break out my bronzing powder to warm up my face a bit (since hiding away in winter leaves my skin thirsting to be a shade other than translucent).

3. Gloss it up!: I'm a lover of lipgloss year round but constantly have a tube in my bag come April. My favorite combination is to layer an uber glossy formula over chapstick for a natural, yet refined, look. You can also pick a brighter shade for that instant 'just ate a popsicle' look. Since that's an obvious go-to in the beauty world...

4. Switch to waterproof formulas: Between midday downpours and sweaty metro rides, waterproof formulas are my best friends. Snag a waterproof tube of your favorite mascara to make sure it doesn't end up down your face by the end of the day! Just make sure you have a good remover to get it off without having to rub your eyes for 20 minutes.

Below are some of my favorite products for my Spring Transition. How do you like to welcome the season? Is there a particular product you always pull out this time of year? Let me know in the comments below!

Big plans for lots of blog productivity quickly fell to the wayside once life caught up. However, a weekend spent celebrating birthdays (everyone go wish Faith a good one!), brunch with college friends, and a food/wine festival left me needing a bit of relaxation. Now it's off to another busy week while squeezing in last-minute prep for my Chicago trip next week. P.S. let me know if there's anything you recommend to do/see!
