June Favorites: Beauty

It's the end of June. Which means August is just around the corner. Which means autumn is right after that. Then it's Thanksgiving, right? Oof, gobble gobble.

June was a month of finally trying some blogger cult classics for me. Somehow this month also brought me into a consistent rhythm of the products that I am truly loving and sticking with for a while (or at least until the end of Summer). Since there were so many favorites for me this month I'm going to be dividing them into three separate posts: beauty, non-beauty, and body products. So. Many. Great. Ones.

Today's favorites are the ones that I'm most excited about in the beauty department. Really, the cream of the crop...

The Balm's Mary-Lou Manizer This is hands down the best highlighter I've ever found. Quote me on it. I use a fluffy brush if I'm looking for an effortless glow to my cheek bones, or I apply it with my fingertips when I want something a little more intense. I also use the highlighter up on my brow bone and in my tear ducts for a great overall glow. The coloring is a perfect honey hue, which is a major bonus for all skin tones. I will definitely be picking this up again once this pot runs dry (which is entirely possible soon with the amount that I've been using it lately)

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Polish Who has time for polish to try when jumping between the cabanas and happy hour? Not this girl. I love these polishes because they have great color pay-off while drying so quickly. Literally, apply, wave your hands around aimlessly for a minute (anyone else do this?), and boom, dry. The brush itself is also a bit wider so it's perfect for the girl on the go. I have the colors Sonic Bloom on my nails right now (shown) and In Prompt Blue on my toes (which is this beautiful blue) - I seem to constantly rotate through them, which is fine by me as they're under $4 a pop.

Lush's Bubblegum Lip Scrub This is one of those products that I've seen pop up everywhere on the blog feeds, and that I knew I needed to try. When I came back from the beach I needed a major hydration overall with my skin - especially my lips. This is the tastiest scrub and is made from all natural ingredients, which I love. I apply this nightly and can lick the remainder off for a little sugar high before I jump into bed. Follow it up with a bit of my Eos lip balm, and everything is perfectly hydrated for my morning lip color. As if I needed another excuse to have more sugar in my day...

Benefit's They're Real! Push-Up Liner I actually wasn't super impressed with this liner when I first tried it out, but I've been finding myself grabbing it daily. I'm still trying to get a hang of the applicator but it's very easy to control and draw a straight line on my lid. I usually tend to apply this over my regular Maybelline liquid liner to smooth things out and give a much deeper color payoff. I'm not sure if I'll pick up another bottle or will move towards investing in the ever-envious Tom Ford liner. Benefit also just released a few color shades so I'm definitely interested in trying those out!

Covergirl's Lip Perfection Lipstick in Spellbound This has been carted around in my handbag for a while now and it always seems to be a go-to during summer. I love applying this on my lips when I want a touch of hot pink (it reminds me a bit of Nars Schiap). I do find that it's a bit drying so I usually layer it with my Kate Moss lip color to get that perfect sheen.

Weekly Favorites: Week of 6.28.15

Happy Monday, all! I had a great weekend with lots of exploring around the city. One thing I love about living in DC is that there's always something new to see and do. You think you know an area like the back of your hand, but then a new restaurant opens or a new event pops up and switches things around. On Saturday we went to one of my favorite city areas - Union Market - for some shopping, eating, and drinking. I popped into Salt + Sundry for some treats then indulged in some fish and chips, white wine, and salted caramel ice cream. Yum. Afterwards we went over to the National Portrait Gallery to see their new "Eye Pop" exhibit and wander the museum a bit. The night was topped off with some drinks at a local bar and lots of OITNB binge watching.

Yesterday was a gorgeous day weather-wise, and the perfect time to spend the day with Faith. We went to my new favorite coffee shop called La Colombe and walked around the area - which completed in finding the perfect white wall for photos. After snagging some lunch, we worked on our plans for our Pittsburgh trip to see One Direction later this summer (we fangirl over them). At night I went to a friends for an amazing dinner and to catch up a bit.

It's set to be a really busy workweek - and only four days long - so the weekend will be here before we know it! I'm excited to share all of the updates as they come along.

Outer Banks Guide: To See & Do


The Outer Banks is one of those places that I can never get sick of. Me and my family have been going there since I was born - including a trip every year for the past few years with friends for me - and I always seem to find new places to explore and new things that I want to do. I also love being able to go back to my favorite places that hold such great memories and truly embrace the idea of summer.

When planning this trip I knew we were lucky enough to have a full week to enjoy the island. My friend Lydia was also coming with our family so I knew she'd be excited to travel and try new things! However, I couldn't really find a guide online to 'hidden gems' on the island - so I knew I wanted to create one to share with those who either love the area just as much, or would like to go one day. 

Here are my top five things to do while visiting the Outer Banks...


The Outer Banks is such a fun place since each area of the island chain has its own character and personality. We stayed down in Hatteras (which is the southernmost part of the chain) so we took a trip to the island of Ocracoke for one of the days. Ocracoke is a small island on the outskirts of Hatteras that can only be reached via ferry or private plane/boat. We took the public ferry (which is also free) and took the hour-long boat ride over to the island - which is one of the best parts! The waters are gorgeous and go as far as the eye can see. It's also really fun to see all of the fishermen and enjoy the ocean breeze. The island itself is full of tiny little shops, restaurants, and historical sights - which you can even see by renting a golf cart or a horse (yes, a horse). If you're on the other side of the island try a day in Corolla or even a tour of the light houses. Just get out of your niche and there's so much to explore!

My favorite spots in Ocracoke: 
  • The Ocracoke Wild Horses - You can see them on the way down Route 12
  • Ocracoke Coffee Co - Try the "Nuts and Bolts"; a delicious frozen blend of espresso, bananas, and chocolate. Still craving this!
  • Ocracoke Island Lighthouse - A smaller lighthouse in OBX but it has the history of being the oldest running one in NC.
  • Ride The Wind Surf Shop - A fun surf shop that just screams summer and carries all authentic gear.
  • The Jolly Roger Pub & Marina - Right on the water and carries the most delicious drinks. It's a perfect way to refresh after the hot day! 
  • Howard's Pub - One of my all-time favorite restaurants. They don't take reservations, so get there early, but the eclectic look and great food will keep you there. Try the oyster shooters (you get to keep the shot glass), hush puppies, and blackened mahi mahi sandwich.



Thankfully we were blessed with sunshine for our trip, but it came with a heavy dose of humidity. It was really difficult to spend an entire day laying out on the beach so we peppered in some daytime activities to cool off. Even better was that these activities all took place in the beautiful NC waters! One of my favorite days was spent out on a chartered fishing boat. The boat ride itself was amazing - we got to see flying fish and the entire coast - and I caught a shark and Trigger fish to bring home for dinner. We also went Jetskiing which was kind of terrifying if you've never done it before. It can also be super pricey so make sure to research the place ahead of time! Me and Lydia had big dreams of riding our own jetski but ended up sharing just one - which was probably better with our fears of speed.

My favorite water-based activities:

  • Fishing on a Charter Boat - We went out on the Miss Hatteras and they have 1/2 and full-day trips depending on your skills. They also are super helpful if you don't know what you're doing and clean the fish for a super small fee.
  • Jetskiing - I'll admit that the place we went was a little 'edgy' so I won't link them here but Kitty Hawk Watersports has amazing reviews! 
  • Stand-Up Paddleboarding - The perfect way to get your a.m. workout while staying in island mode. A lot of watersport shops offer SUP and are usually fairly inexpensive.



Lets be real, this is the best part of vacation. The amount I ate during this trip was unreal. Part of being at the beach is embracing the full beauty of summer and what the seashore has to offer. For me it was lots of frozen treats (and drinks), amazing seafood, and fried deliciousness. We usually cook all of our meals at the house so most of my OBX eats were focused on midday treats.

My favorite spots to grab a treat:
  • Hatteras Sno-Balls (Frisco) - This place has always been one of my favorites and has up to 50 flavors! You can even get your snowball "Hatteras Style" with a scoop of ice cream. The bright exterior and "If you are not barefoot then you're overdressed" slogan on the steps completely drew me in!
  • Island Time Cups & Cones (Avon) - We passed this hot pink and orange building towards the beginning of the week and knew we just HAD to go. Thankfully we did, since I had some of the best cotton candy ice cream of my life! They also offer nightly outdoor movies to view while you nom on your delicious cones.
  • Duck Donuts (Corolla, Duck, Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk) - This seems to be an OBX staple and the franchise has locations all across VA and the East Coast. You get to choose your own icing and topping to create the ultimate breakfast treat! Mine would have strawberry icing with rainbow sprinkles, yum.
  • Kill Devil's Frozen Custard & Beach Fries (Kill Devil Hills) - This is usually the first stop we hit on the island and it's for good reasons! Their frozen custard is so so good - especially the key lime flavor - and so are their beach fries with cheese.
  • Bonus: The Blue Whale (Salvo) - This is more of a grocery store than anything, but it has the best marinades and hot sauces. My two favorites are the _________ and _______, which went perfect with our happy hour chips and dip time.
  • Bonus: Brew Thru (Corolla, Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Nags Head) - The ultimate convenience store. You don't even need to get out of your car to get your beach beers, and really, what's better than that?


The best part of a long day at the beach is heading back for the evening sunset - and the Outer Banks has some good ones. Whether we saw the sunset back on the beach (with the surfers catching the last waves) or back at the house while playing cornhole, they were always spectacular.




You're on vacation! My favorite moments were spent after dinner just kicking up our feet in the rocking chairs on our balcony. Add in some good conversation or your favorite novel (plus a glass of white wine) and enjoy the quietness.

Blushing with 'The Shopping Bag' Over Pearls

Weekly Favorites: Week of 6.21.15.

*Exhale* When I first thought that a vacation was overdue, I didn't realize how truly overdue it was. Being in overdrive in a busy city has definitely taken a toll on my sanity. Add in some life changes and new projects and you've got a very exhausted mind, body, and soul. My family trip to the Outer Banks last week was the perfect remedy.

I spent the time sipping on refreshing cocktails, lounging in the salty waters, exploring the islands, and enjoying the quietness with my family. I always love going to OBX but this week was one of my favorites. I made sure to take a ton of photos to capture everything and will put together a guide of my favorite places/eats later this week!

For now, it's back to the daily grind and the process of catching up on things. At least I've got a nice tan and a Nationals game to look forward to tonight.

Weekend Update (OOTO)

Today is a great day - not only does Jurassic World come out tonight (JP is one of my favorite movies, as seen here) - but it's also my last day before I leave for vacation. I'm off to Fredericksburg tonight then the Outer Banks in the morning for a week of sun, beach, and lime-flavored cocktails. This trip has been in the calendar for over a year now so I can't believe it's here!

OBX is by far my favorite vacation spot and i'm so excited to get back there. I have been planning all of the things I want to do while I'm there: including jet skis, checking out Duck Donuts and my favorite sno cone shop, shopping the beach stores, fishing, and eating all of the seafood and key-lime flavored things I can!

I'm also looking forward to disconnecting from everything and relaxing. I won't be updating anything on the blog-front during the trip, but I will be snapping lots of pictures of our travels (to make their way to the blog later). I'll also be sharing moments on my Instagram and Snapchat (sarahxowagner) if you wanna check in!

Shades for Days

Sunglasses may be one of my favorite accessories. They can spruce up any outfit and give it a new look - without being overbearing. I admit that I lose sunglasses regularly, which is probably why it's so hard for me to invest a lot of money into them. 

Since I have super sensitive eyes when it comes to light I almost always have at least one pair of shades in my bag. The best part is that they can also be used as a headband when the sun goes down.

Weekly Favorites: Week of 6.7.15

Another weekend in the books. This one was a little less eventful - in the best way possible. Friday was spent sippin' some sangria at Jazz in the Garden in the National Sculpture Garden. For those who live in DC and haven't been to a JITG Friday yet: GO! It's seriously so much fun and it's perfect for bringing a blanket and some snacks to. Just make sure you get there a little bit early to beat the crowds. After soaking in some jazz and excitement, we headed over to one of my favorite bars called Hill Country. DC isn't necessarily known for Country bars so that's why I was so happy to find this one. Something about the atmosphere just always makes us feel like home. Plus, they serve their beer in mason bars, have live music, and make some of the best mac and cheese and brisket! Ya can't go wrong.

On Saturday morning me and Lydia popped over to the mall. She got a haircut and I had a chance to return some items. After refueling with Chick-fil-A and iced chai lattes, we headed over to a friend's house for drinks, sun, and mega jenga. So fun! We topped off the night at a local biergarten that housed 1lb pretzels. Hellooooo carbs!

Sunday was a bit more tame with some pool time and a trip to TJ Maxx and Target. I picked up a few extra things for our trip to OBX this weekend - along with two amazing maxi dresses. Hopefully I'll be able to snag some photos while wearing them on the beach!

It's the last week before vacation so i'm sure it will be simultaneously hectic and exciting. Somehow I packed majority of my bags last night, but I always forget about all of the little tasks I need to do before heading away on a trip. Here are some of the things (albeit beach focused) that are keeping me motivated this week:


Starbucks Fan Favorites | As an avid Starbucks lover, the email I received this morning made me want to do a happy dance. In honor of the Frappucino's 20th anniversary, Starbucks is offering fan favorite combinations in stores: think red velvet cake, cotton candy, cinnamon roll, lemon bar, caramel cocoa cluster, and cupcake. Oh. Em. Gee. You all know how I love a Frapp gimmick...

Fashion from the TONYs | The TONY awards always bring the classic glam - and last night was no exception. Some of my favorites included Amanda Seyfried, Joan Small, and Bella Hadid (Joe Manganiello and Nick Jonas, you weren't so bad yourselves).

12 Best Restaurants in VA | Virginia is for lovers, and amazing local food. 

Italian Chicken Bake | Still thinking about what to make for dinner? Look no more. This recipe is super easy and so delicious! Best part is that it's only four ingredients and can last you for the work week.

Pineapple Ring | Pineapples are definitely this summer's biggest trend - and this ring is the perfect way to subtly rock your love for the sweet fruit. 

Beach Favorites | Old Navy is simply killin' the game lately. I'm loving their new styles and there seems to always be a great sale! These lace-up sandals and this straw tote are calling my name. Best part is they're currently offering 30% off of everything with code HAPPY. 

Realistic Weight Loss Tips | Kick off your week with these realistic health tips from one of my favorite bloggers. My attempts to substitute my favorite rose with mint tea starts now... (slowly crying)

Weekend Update


Friday, I'm in love (with you). After a seemingly chaotic past month I'm so excited to have a weekend with limited plans and hopes of catching up with friends - and on sleep. Last weekend I had the chance to see one of my high school friends marry the love of her life. The wedding itself was beautiful and it was so fun catching up with friends who moved across the US. It's always great to see how things pick up so quickly after so much time! Rent the Runway was my savior when I didn't have time for shopping (rare, I know) so I wore this perfect Jill Jill Stuart dress, Zara shoes, and these beautiful Kenneth Jay Lane earrings. I was so sad to return them the next day.

I spent majority of the week getting 'back into the swing of things' and hope to continue that into the weekend. Next weekend I'm off on vacation and I literally can't wait! It's been almost 1.5 years since I've had a real 'vacation' so it's long overdue. It's also in my favorite place so I can't wait to share it all with you! Here are a few peeks of my week:

Inspiration Lately

When I'm really busy, it's definitely harder to stay inspired. However the hope of a vacation coming my way next weekend leads to some exciting Pinterest action. Summer leads to the love of all things bright and fun - two of my favorite aesthetic looks. 

Lately I've been loving...

...Beach Wavy Hair Summer is all about keeping that sunkissed fresh-from-the-beach look. I love the way my hair looks and feels after spending a day in the sun. My highlights pop out and the salt adds a perfect effortless wave. In order to achieve this without access to the ocean, I've been spraying some John Freida Surf Spray into my locks. The best part is the coconut scent, which just screams summer *swoon*. I also love the idea of adding in some texturing spray, or a braided crown, to keep your hair out of your face.

...Glowing Skin with Pops of Color Bronzers and highlighters are my best friends when the warmer months roll around. There's a simple pleasure in adding a champagne sheen over your cheekbones when they're hit with a little bit of sun. I also love the idea of bright coral and pink glosses to top things off. The new collections from Christopher Kane + Nars and Urban Decay have been totally playing off of this trend. Their packaging alone just makes me want to pop them into my beach tote.

...Summer Vibes I'm talking about melty ice cream cones, frozen drinks with pineapples, and loading up on colorful accessories. Although these things are great year round - they're especially loved this time of year. There's nothing better then bringing out your inner youth with the easy-breezy feel of summer.

May Favorites





To say that May was a busy time is a bit of an understatement. Between starting a new job, lots of traveling, and balancing after-work events I feel like I've been running around like crazy. Thankfully June comes with a one-week vacation in the Outer Banks (my favorite relaxation spot) and a less full calendar. Hopefully it'll also come with time to generate more content!

Since May was one of those months where I was constantly on the move, my go-to products tend to mimic that. I focused more on replenishing my tired skin and keeping things fresh:

  • New Brushes (!!) | I'm excited to talk about this one first since it was one of those purchases I've been putting off for a while. A new Sephora opened in my neighborhood and the brush display was the first place I visited. My eyebrow brush had broken a while back so I was using a CVS version as a back-up. It was not good. Thankfully I walked out of Sephora with the Pro Brow Comb #21 and the Pro Brow Brush #20. If I have five minutes before I walk out the door my brows are always on my list. The tag-team is perfect for keeping them in place and the brushes feel like they'll last a lifetime. I also love how they came with little plastic covers - which I slip on for travel to keep them clean.
  • LUSH Cosmetic Warrior Face Mask | This is my first LUSH face mask and certainly won't be my last. I popped into the Georgetown store when I was walking home from work one day and wanted something to really make my skin feel fresh. The associate was so nice and helped me pick out a mask that she thought worked best for what I wanted: clean out my pores, get rid of redness, and leave my face hydrated. I was hesitant to purchase this mask since it's main ingredient was garlic (yes, garlic), but it actually had a nice smell and was just what I needed. The mask was cooling (especially since it's kept in the fridge) and cleaned out my pores while being uber gentle to my skin. This is definitely something I'll be keeping in my rotation!
  • NYX Photo Loving Primer in Clear | I was ecstatic when I saw that my CVS restocked this product. The formula comes out of the tube like a gel but sits as a powder once you apply it to your face. It fills in my pores and blurs any lines on my face. I also love that it's more of a gel form since it sits so comfortably on my skin without feeling greasy - like most lotions do. Bonus is that the tube is extremely long-lasting and at a low price.
  • Daisy by Marc Jacobs Fragrance | You know when you borrow a friend's perfume and know you have to have it? That's what happened here. I used my friend Lydia's Daisy spritz before going out one night and fell in love. This is definitely more of a light scent for the day, but its floral scent - with hints of violet, gardenia, and vanilla - is perfect for the summer. Unfortunately snagging the full-size scent was out of my budget but I did pick up this small sample in line at Sephora. It also came with Daisy Eau So Fresh for $10 and the bottles are so cute and ready to throw into my makeup bag for trips!
  • Clinique Lip Pop Lipstick in Sweet Pop | This has been a staple in my bag (as seen here) and is the perfect way to add color to my face on the go. The formula is super creamy and doesn't need a mirror to apply. I also love that the cap is a bit more sturdy to re-attach so you don't have chances of it coming off in your purse. These Lip Pops are definitely on my list to pick up more shades. I'm already eyeing the Melon Pop and Cherry Pop colors for my summer wardrobe!
